One of my absolute favorite bands these days is Flipturn. I recently was lucky enough to be able to see their set in Columbus during the Burnout Days Tour. Flipturn is an alternative/indie rock band from Florida. They just released a new album: Burnout Days earlier this spring. I have been listening to them since 2018 when I came across the song August (fun fact: it was one of the first songs I sent to my now fiancé!) . I was immediately enthralled with
them. The lead singer Dillon Basse’s voice immediately pulled me in and I spent the next couple of years digging into the couple of EPs they had at the time before I was finally able to catch a show in Columbus at the Rumba Cafe in 2021 on my birthday! Since then, my fiancé, siblings, and a couple friends and I have become big fans. We have been bopping around to shows in Ohio and making sure to catch their sets at festivals ever since.
One of my favorite parts of discovering new beloved artists is getting to see them live when they are smaller and watching them grow and develop an even stronger stage presence, more confidence, and see how their sound and style changes over time. Flipturn is one that I have loved growing with! This recent show was unsurprisingly amazing! To be totally transparent, this new album did not immediately intrigue me. But the beauty of live music is that it can make you feel a completely different way about the actual music when you hear it in person. I definitely walked away from this show loving multiple of the new songs that I was not expecting to , and cherishing some of the older songs even more. The Burnout Days Tour includes all the songs from the new album and a great balance of some of the biggest hits from the prior albums. We enjoyed it so much we already bought VIP tickets to their recently announced Cleveland tour stop later this summer. Their energy keeps growing more and more with every show and it’s the kind of concert that is impossible to not dance at (especially during Nickel -usually the final song!). I cannot recommend checking them out enough and/or grabbing a ticket to the Cleveland Show at the Agora on July 30th!
